MINIMIZE FAT. Unsaturated fats like canola and olive oils are recommended over animal fats and hydrogenated fats. Trimmed meats and non or low food items all provide an ounce of prevention against heart disease, cancer and diabetes.
MINIMIZE SALT. Salt causes water retention. Instead, try to use more spices, flavorful herbs and aromatic vegetables like garlic, onions, lemon and chilies.
MINIMIZE SUGAR. Most forms of sugar adversely affect our total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL ("bad" cholesterol). Elevated levels of blood sugar boost uric acid production, depress immune system and increase risk of diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
MAXIMIZE FIBER. Fiber is indispensable in curbing over overeating, keeping blood sugar constant, reducing cholesterol, regulating bowel movement and lessening the risk of cancer.
MINIMIZE ALCOHOL. Alcohol is calorific. Too much alcohol can harm our immune system, alter our thinking and increase the risks for colorectal cancer and cirrhosis of the liver.
